WHY


We know that Charleston students and parents have their hearts and minds set on the educational opportunities offered at the highly competitive arts infused schools. The process can be overwhelming and frustrating.

Our classes are taught by art teachers who are also professional, practicing artists. We know what it feels like to create meaningful work, share, then face judgement and rejection. We also have experienced the sheer joy of creativity, acceptances, and successful careers.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN

Educate the whole child- For many, art is a way of life and learning, not just a hobby or a vocation.

Facilitate life skills- Students learn best when information is presented visually and in a hands on manner which is why arts infused schools have a higher success rate in producing critical thinkers. Preserve the inner artist- The spots available are far less than the acceptance rate.  We want students to stay interested in art     even if they aren't accepted to the school.

HOW DO WE DO IT - A 5 STEP PROCESS:

 

-Step 1 - Each student is given a complementary assessment interview. We discuss readiness, assess needs, and plan a strategy to fill the gaps. By appointment. please call or email.  *Students known to the instructors from prior classes/summer sessions may be able to skip this step.  Please inquire.

-Step 2 - Students will take the first course, Practicing for Portfolio. 4 week sessions,   $320

(Choose from ONE SET of the four options below)

  • Thursdays 8/31, 9/7, 9/14, 9/21 4-6pm
  • Saturday 9/9. 9/16, 9/23, 9/30 2-4pm
  • Tuesdays 9/19, 9/26, 10/3, 10/10 4-6pm
  • Wednesdays 9/20, 9/27, 10/4, 10/11 4-6pm

Students will experiment with a variety of materials and techniques to see what might be the best mediums to pursue for the best possible presentation.  After this course is completed, students will take step 3.

-Step 3 - There will be 3 group classes based on the standard portfolio requirements.  (Dates to be announced soon)

  • The Still Life Class 2 weeks for 2 hours. $160
  • The Landscape Class 2 weeks for 2 hours. $160
  • The Portrait Class with Meyriel Edge.  $240         SATURDAYS 10-12: Dec 2, Dec 8, Dec 16, Jan 6                                               

4 weeks for 1.5 hours each week with mandatory drawing assignment homework.

-Step 4 - Drawing Test Study Group Practice for the test in a group setting. Critique of work after. To be scheduled for late   January and February. $75 .

-Step 5 - Students will need a few private sessions to polish projects and presentation.  $40 per hour.

***Although we try to be sensitive to busy schedules and unforeseen events, our classes are specifically tailored which makes make-up classes difficult. Make-up classes are at the discretion of Fabulon.  Portfolio Prep classes are gearing students for an intense program of study.  Attendance is expected.
